Kind of like the Ft. Derrusey Investigation but a little more remote. The remnants of the old, natural fort sit off 1/2 mile from the main road. Many Union troops perished trying to capture the fort from the Confederates.

I would just like to add...
We have been there about five or six times. It's not too bad and is fairly enjoyable. If you are considering going to the area, also check out the land that GP owns. They have MANY battle site and even an area where you can walk trails through the battle lines. The terrain is very difficult, be sure to bring lots of liquids and some energy bars if you decide to go.
The area is on land that is owned by the GP paper mill, so that's who you have to contact in order to gain access.
Also, you have to watch out for holes. Rogue metal detectorist will sneak in and dig up the area and not fill in any of the holes. If your not careful, you could twist your ankle or fall down one of the ravines.
And you'll need LOTS OF BUG SPRAY. You will not believe the variety of mutated blood sucking bugs out there!
Also, on another note, that same area (couple miles up the road) there is some land owned by Joseph Smith that had some intense battles. The Alabama Redoubt was at this place and there is still quite a bit of trench work that is left. Most of it is cow pasture and farm land. It would make for a good hunt.

Sounds good. You really know your stuff in that area. I have been to the old natural fort one time and it was about a half mile walk on an open path. I never left the path but I am sure you are right about the holes out there.

We investigated here last year I think it was. Make sure you bring lots insect repellent and if you go in the warmer months a stick becomes necessary to keep from running into the banana spider webs across the paths. lol
