So you see TV shows depicting ghost hunting and you want to try it for yourself. You see the thrill of the hunt before you on TV and it makes you want to join in on the action. Well, I will be the first to warn you before you get your hopes up that this can be a very boring hobby!
There are always a few things I tell potential members before we further the application process. Ghost hunting, as I like to say, can often be as exciting as watching paint dry! So, you may be asking, "well then why the hell do it!??" It basically is like any form of hunting. If you are truly dedicated and interested in the whole field, then you are more than content sweating your ass off in a dusty attic for 6+hrs, come home, review the hrs of video and audio. and be completely content if you captured even the smallest bit of evidence such as a small audio clip.
The truth...this is often a very boring hobby. So boring, it will often cause you to re-evaluate your interests. That is why there is such a high turnover rate for members and groups. Most often the case, the individual(s) is expecting to have every investigation as action packed as what they see on TV. When they see it is not, as well as the fact they have to continue these "dry spells" they quickly lose interest and back out.
Second, if you are not like some of your fly by night groups that claim every bump is a ghost, you spend most of your time debunking occurences initially reported as paranormal, yet have been explained rationally. This too, can often cause you to lose interest and, as with myself, makes you believe even less in the paranormal, reinforcing your skepticism.
Why do I do it??? Good question b/c sometimes I ask myself that everyday! If anything, I have learned an endless supply of very interesting information, been to some of the most beautiful and historical places in the state, met some very unique people, extremely strengthened by public/communication/analytical skills, and made some of the best friends I could ask for. Throw in an occasional unexplainable EVP, photo, and video clip and that, in a nut shell, is the reason I continue to travel all corners of the state, burn gas like its water, max out credit cards, and be away from my family on the only two days of the week I have off.
So with all that said....still wanna ghost hunt??? hehe dont worry, it isnt all that bad. These are just things I like to bring to the table first and foremost to all potential members, primarily b/c if I dont, you will find out when its too late and we have already spent the time and resources in showing you the ropes and you leave us hanging 3-4 weeks later b/c this isnt your cup of tea. Like I always tell everyone, this is a very time consuming hobby and if you wish to perform at the level that we require, you must put this first over all extracurriclar activities.
Again, these are just my opinions, but a majority of my members can probably vouche for me! Take care everybody!!!
