Ok, so as a newbie ive been extremely interested in watching reading and learning about ghost hunting and the paranormal for about 2 years. But I have never made the leap into actually doing anything myself. What would be a good start for someone like me?

The best way to get started is to find a legitimate group of investigators to show you the ropes. It's always easier to get experience with a group who knows what they are doing. If there are no groups available in your area, get a digital camera and an audio recorder and begin by doing a couple of practice investigations somewhere familiar to you. Your own home or a friends home are good places to start. Practice asking questions with your recorder and then analize the recording for evp's. Take some digital photographs and look for unexplained images. If you do find something you cannot explain, share your findings with other investigators so they can help you rule out possibilities you may not have thought of. Keep an open mind to their suggestions and don't get discouraged when every one of them tells you that your orb is simply a piece of dust or moisture in the air. They are just as eager to find evidence as you are but trained investigators can help get down to the bottom of things. Once you are well practiced in using your equipment and are comfortable in your debunking skills, move on to places that offer more of a challenge. Make sure in all of your investigations you take at least one person with you. If you do find something paranormal, you will need someone to back up your claim. Most importantly, don't get discouraged. Most investigations yield no evidence and going over hours of tape and 100's of photos can be boring. When you do find something it will fuel the fire again though and keep you looking for more. I hope this helps. Happy hunting!
