Personal opinion on this first part. If many people do not believe in possession, and I believe this true, there would be no real need to hide the attempted possession.
However, there are two versions , the first is due to a congenital condition of the brain, and the second, often called idiopathic epilepsy, is due to underlying emotional conditions. The Ancient Greeks believed that epilepsy was caused by the invasion of the body by an outside force. A distinction can be drawn from "true" epilepsy, and "false" epilepsy. The "true" can easily be distinguished by an encephalograph. The "false" can be caused by many things, and I don't think oppression/possession can be categorized as not causing emotional distress.
