In my opinion, I would have to say that the effect is caused from an overexposed shutter, causing the blur and the squiggly lights.

would something like that be in every pic with a over exposed shutter?

Pretty much so! Especially if the camera is set on a night mode.

it wasn't set on night mode and it doesn't always show up. In some other pics we took of my friends leaning aginst the post and holding out there hands we saw energy(or something flowing betwen there hands. sadly these pics are not in my postion

I agree with Brad. You can have your camera on auto - but sometimes it can't get the light that it needs, so it will cause the shutter to stay open a little longer to get enough light for the picture. The best thing to do to keep this from happening is to raise your iso. That will alow the camera to take pics in lower light situations with out the shutter staying open and distorting all the light sources.

Well there where not light sources except for two small lights near the bottom of the cross pointing toward it. There where no near by street lights or other lights in the grave yard.
