Hi, my name is Dwayne and I'm new here. I moved into my home right at fifteen years ago this month. It is an older home, built back in the forties. I am not sure of when I first noticed this but is has been going on for years. There are moments when I and other family members have smelled cigartte smoke. It does not linger. When you realize what you are smelling and try to pick it up again it is gone. It seems to happen at least once a month but not at any particular time. I have ruled out the possibility of it being someone smoking in or out of my home. We are non smokers, I live in a rural area and the nearest house is over 200 yds. away. (also have a cemetary next door)Once in a great while, I hear a big noise like someone slammed a door. This happens mostly at night and I have gotten up to check only to find no closed doors except deadbolted entry doors and nothing had fallen to the floor. The only history I have about the house is that there was only one owner and his wife that resided here. Both are deceased. The Mr. of the house was a smoker and did in fact die here due to health reasons. I am not bothered by this but just curious.

Strange smells, such as tobacco or flowers, are often the most common forms of paranormal experiences. Scents are said to be one of the easiest ways for spirits to communicate. Thanks for sharing your story.

Also, if the previous resident was a smoker for years, the smoke could easily reside in the walls. If sunlight pears in a window and heats up the walls it will release that smell. Try taking a blow dryer to some of the walls and see if you smell the smoke. Your problem might not be paranormal at all.
