Just a quick background on myself before I get into the experiences. I have had a fascination with the paranormal for a long time. I have a deep faith in Christ, and am a pastor in a very conservative denomination. I have my own Bible based theories as to what causes hauntings and such, but I won't espouse them here and now. I'm also an analytical person who seeks physical answers before jumping off the paranormal deep-end.
I was doing work for a church (Since I still do pastoral work, I will keep the name and area private) as an interim worship pastor. As the only musician in the church, I would go up there many times at night, alone, to practice. The experiences started almost immediately. I would see shadows directly on, not out of the corner of my eyes. They would move quickly, so I generally just thought it was my imagination. I slowly came to the realization that I've never had imaginary experiences like that before, and the fact that I would also see them during daytime hours started to make me really think.
The church was set far off the road, and never had people pulling into the parking lot at the late hours I was there. I refused to ask anyone in the church if they had similar experiences because of the nature of my position. So, I decided to do my own investigation.
I did not have any fancy investigating equipment, but I did have a digital voice recorder. I brought this with me one night, and did a quick evp session after I practiced. Within about 17 minutes I had two responses, but to only one question. I asked "Why are you still here?" The response: "I don't know." and a few seconds later a whispered "Dead." Neither of these sounds were audible when I was doing the session.
After I reviewed the evidence I decided to go back another night with a digital camera. I convinced my brother to go along with me. We heard a few bumps, but the only thing that happened that night was that my digital camera went off by itself after I had taken a series of shots in the baptistry. The lens cap was off, the flash fired, but it was a completely black shot. All previous shots came out clearly.
Being that I was approaching the end of my time there, I knew I only had a few more opportunities to research. One night while I was practicing, I heard a noise behind me. I turned around and saw a shadow dead on in the shape of a head peeking out of a curtain at me. It slowly disappeared. I smiled, because I knew what I had seen and resumed practicing. I started practicing a song that I had written, and I stopped playing the song because I had made a mistake. When I stopped, I heard a female voice from a closet behind me humming the chorus to the song. That made me a little uncomfortable, but I got up went into the closet and no one was there. I also went outside and circled the building to make sure no one was around. I went back into the church, shut off the lights, and started an evp session, but captured nothing.
I had no more time to collect evidence with my time at the church. I rarely have personal experiences that I would deem paranormal, but that ranks up there for sure.
