The jail where I work has been rumored to be haunted for years. One of the fed tiers has been notorious for sightings, as well as one of our isolation cells. In general, there have been reported experiences throughout the facility. I chalk most of these up to deputies and inmates with way too much time on their hands and imaginations running wild.
The fed tier that is rumored to be haunted had a suicide several years ago, since then deputies and inmates alike have seen a girl in a white dress on the second floor, as well as multiple shadows. I chalk the shadows up to light play though. I have no explanation for the girl in the white dress though.
In the "haunted" isolation cell, there has been a large black mass reported by deputies viewing the camera and the bars have been known to shake violently. One particular experience, the deputy reported that he heard the bars shaking, and was getting upset with the inmate making so much noise. He checked the camera, and the inmate was sitting on his bed away from the bars curled into a fetal position on the bed. The bars were observed to still be shaking and the black mass in the corner. I personally have talked to inmates who have been placed in this cell, and beg and plead to be placed into another cell. Fear can be seen in their eyes when talking to them. They all seem to report the same thing. Apparently there was an inmate that died a few yards away in a small tier, but I don't know if there is any relation there.
There have been numerous other random reports. However I will just list my personal experiences here:
1) While I was training, my Corporal and I were entered the control pod where I was working. I placed my drink on top of the water cooler. I began having a conversation with my Cpl. and I looked over just in time to see my drink slide off of the water cooler horizontally and hold in the air for a split second before it fell to the floor. At first I thought that the cooler may have kicked on, but it didn't explain how the drink remained vertical as it slid off and held in the air. My cpl. saw the same thing, however he jokingly said that he didn't see anything. Its easier to deny so it is easier to work up there.
2) I was working one of the main control panels one night. Upon entering the POD I checked everything. The lights were off, which is typical for this pod as the lights get the room too hot. I even saw that the switch was off, and the dimmer slider was pulled all the way down. I was talking to another deputy about ghost stories in the jail. In the middle of the conversation the lights turned on in the room. It surprised me because no one had been by the switch. I looked over and the slider was 3/4 of the way up, and the switch was on. Kinda creeped me out.
3) We were conducting a shakedown in the visitation lobby as we had received information that some contraband had been dropped earlier in the day. It was about 1 am. The deputy that was working the main control panel (that I had previously mentioned in this post), along with 2 other inmate workers observed a man in an orange shirt and blue jeans enter the visit lobby and walk past us into the visit rooms. She called over the radio for us to go and get him out. We were all out in the lobby and none of us saw anyone walk by. There is only one way in and out of the lobby, and that was locked. We immediately checked the visit rooms and no one was in there. Even though we knew it was impossible for this man to get any further into the facility, we checked anyway. There was no one to be found. We went and reviewed video, and there was no one that had entered the lobby except we deputies. The deputy that was working the pod is a very level headed, logical person, so there was no reason to disbelieve her, or the inmate workers for that matter. Just one more unexplainable event.
Well that's it for my experiences there. I don't believe every story that has been given to me there, but I have definitely had experiences that have maybe validated other claims.
